Hunting is a central part of Undredal´s traditions. On the mountains of Grånosi, Lofti and Nisedalfjellet around Undredal, there are several animal graves. These graves were used by the hunters to catch animals. The age of these animal graves is difficult to estimate given lack of organic substance in them, but indications point to the as early periods as the 4th and the 5th century.
Animal graves were very important for the remote mountain farms, and an old saga says that the animal graves were passed on from generation to generation. The use of these graves ceased in the 18th century and they are now protected by the Norwegian Cultural Memory Organization as cultural objects.
In modern times, hunting is done yearly during the autumn in the area around Undredal. Mostly deer and also some reindeer are hunted. When the hunters leave for a hunting weekend, they use the remote mountain farms and pastures as camps and can stay away for several days before they return to the village.
